Edmonton Tourism

Edmonton is home to a lively arts community. In 1997, after years of planning, the Francis Winspear Centre was opened. Lauded as one of the most acoustically perfect concert halls in Canada, it is home to the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Right across the street is the Citadel Theatre. One of the largest theatre complexes in Canada, it boasts five halls, suited for different types of productions, each with a full schedule of shows.

Known as 'the Festival City', Edmonton is host to numerous celebrations. Some highlights include the Edmonton Fringe Festival, which celebrates the best in alternative theatre, the Edmonton Film Festival, which showcases independent films from all over the world, and the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, one of the most popular folk music festivals in North America.

Another highlight is the spectacular West Edmonton Mall. With 5.4 million square feet of retail space, it is one of the largest shopping malls in the world. Calling itself the 'Eighth Wonder of the World', it is visited by over 22 million people every year. In addition to a vast selection of department stores and global retailers, the mall also has its own amusement park, home to the worlds tallest indoor rollercoaster, a water park filled with wild, wet amusements, and 'Bourbon Street', a New Orleans-themed district filled with shops, restaurants and nightclubs.
